Liposomes are tiny vesicles with a lipid shell. Cosmetics use them to carry selected ingredients. They can affect an ingredient’s stability, release and distribution in the skin.
The word “liposomal” describes a technology. It does not establish how effective a product will be or whether it causes hair regrowth. Those claims need evidence about the finished formula.

How a liposome is built
The shell mainly consists of phospholipids, substances similar to those found in cell membranes. A watery space sits inside. This structure can hold different substances in the centre or within the shell.
Liposomes are too small to see with the naked eye. A serum’s texture does not tell you whether they are present or whether they remain intact.
What liposomes may do
One purpose is to protect a sensitive ingredient. Enclosing it in a carrier may reduce contact with other substances and affect stability. Liposomes may also change how quickly an ingredient is released and where it accumulates.
Not every formula achieves every benefit. Vesicle size, shell composition, contents and storage conditions all matter.

Do liposomes reach hair follicles?
Studies of selected carriers have found accumulation within follicles. This has been investigated in models including pig skin and mice. Such findings help researchers design further studies.
They do not mean every liposome reaches the dermal papilla at the base of a follicle. Finding a substance near the follicle opening is different from showing that an effective amount reaches its deeper structures.
Results also depend on the substance being carried. Evidence for one ingredient and carrier cannot simply be transferred to another cosmetic.
Why the ingredient list is not enough
An INCI list can help you identify a known allergen or fragrance ingredient. It does not show liposome size, stability or the amount of substance held inside them.
Lecithin and phospholipids can serve other roles in a formula. Their presence alone does not prove that a product contains liposomes. A manufacturer using that description should have information to support it.
Liposomes and colostrum
Bovine colostrum contains proteins, many of which do not pass easily through healthy skin. This is one reason researchers investigate different delivery methods.
Using liposomes is a formulation choice. It does not establish regrowth after applying a colostrum cosmetic. Our colostrum research review explains what the underlying studies do and do not show.
Liposomal delivery is also different from freeze-drying, which removes water from a frozen ingredient. The two processes can be used together.
Assessing a serum or mask
The serum and mask available from Trichovita contain liposomal bovine colostrum. Follow each product’s instructions, including whether to rinse it off and how to apply it.
When assessing cosmetic care, consider scalp comfort, ease of detangling and hair breakage. Softer hair does not prove that its density has increased.
A cosmetic does not replace an assessment of hair loss. A widening part or receding hairline should be discussed with a dermatologist. Persistent itching or scaling also needs an explanation rather than repeated product changes.
Common questions
Are liposomal cosmetics always gentle?
No. Tolerance depends on the entire formula and your skin. Stop using a product that causes burning, persistent itching or redness. Liposomes do not remove the risk of allergy.
Can I use liposomal colostrum with a milk allergy?
Avoid bovine colostrum if you have a cow’s milk protein allergy. A carrier does not make a known allergen safe.
How long should results take?
That depends on the product and the outcome being assessed. There is no shared timetable for all liposomal cosmetics. A regrowth claim needs separate evidence.
Is a liposomal product always better?
No. Comparing quality requires information about the whole products, their performance and tolerance. A well-designed formula without liposomes can also provide effective cosmetic care.
