How to read INCI on trichology cosmetics

INCI (International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients) is the EU-mandated naming system for cosmetic ingredients. Every cosmetic must display it on the packaging — and it's the one thing actually worth reading when choosing a product.

1

Order = importance

Ingredients are listed in descending order by quantity in the formula. The first 5 typically account for ~80% of the product. If the "main active" sits at position 15+, it's marketed as present but is actually trace.

2

The 1% threshold

Ingredients above 1% concentration must appear in strict weight order; those below 1% may be listed in any order. That's why "natural extracts" at the end of the list often mean "a few drops for marketing."

3

What to avoid in trichology

On scalp cosmetics it's worth avoiding harsh detergents (SLS, SLES — they damage the barrier), follicle-clogging silicones (Dimethicone, Cyclomethicone) and parabens. Check the INCI of every cosmetic before you buy.

The full composition of our serum and mask is on each product page — compare with competitors before you decide.

Formula comparison

Same base ingredients, two different formulas

Trichovita's serum and mask share the same active backbone — liposomal bovine colostrum, growth factors, lactoferrin and proline-rich polypeptides. The differences lie in how long they work on the skin and which additional ingredients round out the formula.

Active ingredientSerumMask
Liposomal bovine colostrum
Growth factors (IGF-1, EGF, TGF-β)
Lactoferrin
Proline-rich polypeptides (PRP)
Hydrolyzed silk
Ceramides NP, AP, EOP
Phytosphingosine + Cholesterol
Hemp seed oil (Cannabis Sativa)
Jojoba oil (Simmondsia Chinensis)
Sweet almond oil
Shea butter (Butyrospermum Parkii)

Serum: daily barrier

Twice a day, morning and evening, massaged into the scalp and left in. Ceramides NP, AP and EOP with phytosphingosine and cholesterol rebuild the epidermis between washes, when the skin needs it most. The light texture means daily use never weighs the hair down.

Mask: deeper intervention

Two or three times a week, ideally left on overnight. The four oils, hemp, jojoba and sweet almond, plus shea butter, need time to penetrate, so the mask left on overnight gives the most. A shorter 15 to 30 minutes also works, but that is the minimum, not the optimum.

Together they form a complete system: the serum every morning and evening, the mask overnight every few days. That is why we also offer them as a discounted bundle.

Every ingredient in our formula has a specific purpose. We don't add anything for marketing effect — only efficacy confirmed in trichology practice matters.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about ingredients

Is the formula natural?
All active ingredients in Trichovita come from natural sources — bovine colostrum, plant oils (hemp, jojoba, sweet almond), shea butter, silk. The liposomes are built from phospholipids (Lecithin) identical to the membranes of our own cells. The formula contains no SLS, SLES, silicones, parabens or artificial dyes.
Can I use it during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
Yes. The formula does not contain ingredients flagged in cosmetic literature as problematic for pregnant or breastfeeding women — no retinoids, no high-concentration salicylic acid, no phthalates or known endocrine disruptors. Bovine colostrum is a protein naturally present in food; in liposomal form, applied topically to the scalp, it does not enter the bloodstream in any meaningful amount. Marta Szejnoga regularly recommends this formula to postpartum patients — telogen effluvium (postpartum hormonal hair shedding) affects 40-50% of women after childbirth, so safe care matters especially then. Individual concerns are worth discussing with a doctor or pharmacist.
Are there any allergens?
The full ingredient list (INCI) is on the packaging and on each product page. The most common potential allergens are fragrance components (Parfum — in the mask only) and sweet almond oil. If you have a known milk-protein allergy, consult a trichologist before use — colostrum is a milk protein, though in liposomal form it rarely triggers skin reactions.
How does Trichovita differ from other trichology cosmetics?
Three traits: (1) liposomal delivery technology — most trichology cosmetics in Poland are water-based formulas where active ingredients stay on the surface; we are currently the only trichology line in Poland with liposomal colostrum; (2) bovine colostrum as the main active — a natural concentrate of 80+ bioactive proteins (growth factors, lactoferrin, immunoglobulins), it acts multi-directionally unlike single synthetic peptides; (3) compromise-free INCI — formulas contain no SLS, parabens, silicones or artificial dyes.
How do you know the ingredients really work?
Every active ingredient has published research — on the individual ingredient pages (e.g. growth factors, lactoferrin, liposomes) you'll find links to the key PubMed publications. Trichovita relies on mechanisms documented in the literature: growth factors from colostrum activate the follicle's regenerative pathways, lactoferrin supports the microbiome and barrier, ceramides rebuild the lipid layer. The formula itself is the proprietary work of Marta Szejnoga — a trichologist with 20,000+ clinical treatments.
